What happens when teenagers and their parents struggle to understand each other? This lively rock musical explores one of the most universal experiences of growing up: the inevitable clash between generations.
Originally created in the early 1980s, U koga se uvrglo ovo dijete returns to the stage at Zagreb Youth Theatre (ZKM) in a new production that pays tribute to a much-loved piece of Croatian theatre history.
The original musical was brought to life by Zvjezdana Ladika and Ladislav Tulač, working with a picture book by Hungarian author Éva Janikovszky. Its story and music have remained memorable for generations of Croatian audiences.
More than four decades after its premiere at Zagreb's legendary Kulušić club, the production returns through the efforts of Mario Mirković and Grozdana Lajić Horvat, who have personal connections to the original show. Mirković performed in it as a high-school student, while Lajić Horvat remembers watching it as a child and repeatedly listening to its soundtrack at home.
This new version brings together young performers from the ZKM Theatre Education Centre, who contribute their own ideas and energy to a story that remains relevant today. Although teenagers now grow up in a very different world from that of their parents, the misunderstandings, emotions and search for independence remain remarkably familiar.
The musical offers something for everyone: teenagers navigating the challenges of growing up, parents rediscovering what adolescence feels like, and adults looking back on their own formative years.
One of the most frequently performed productions in ZKM's history, this revival is both a celebration of the theatre's legacy and an invitation to a new generation to discover its enduring charm.
